The outcross program was developed as a way to provide genetic diversity to the sphynx breed since they originated from a single genetic mutation. This allows a way to increase the gene pool and provide different lines to work with for the betterment of the breed. The potential advantages are many including genes that may help with improvement of the immune system, increased vigor, improved bone density, etc.. The allowable breeds to be used in the outcross program include the Domestic Short Hair and the American Short Hair. While an outcross program takes time and multiple generations to develop hairless kids for the show ring, I believe the advantages to this limited program are many; and worth the time, monetary commitment, and space required. In addition, even though they have hair, they have many of the classic sphynx traits that endear so many to this breed.
These are our Outcross Kids that are owned or coowned by us and stay with us, our family, or friends. Without their help, we would not be able to have such a strong outcross program.
